Inclement Weather Policy
The System office will remain open except in the most severe weather conditions. Decisions about administrative operations are made based on conditions of transportation routes to the administrative offices. Decisions by units outside of Knoxville will depend on the decision of the county office in which they are located. Employees should also monitor local conditions to assess their travel risk.
Employee Guidance
In the event of inclement weather when the University remains open, all staff are expected to make every reasonable effort to maintain their regular work schedules but are advised to avoid undue risks in traveling. Employees who anticipate arriving late or using the option to telecommute should notify their immediate supervisors. The head of departments also have the capability to determine if their team could telecommute during the period where is it unsafe to travel.
Administrative Closings
The president may officially close or suspend selected activities of the University because of extreme weather conditions. When a decision to close is made, information will be distributed through an emergency application, on the president’s twitter account @UT_President along with an email from the president and posted to the homepage of tennessee.edu.
Delayed Openings
In the event of a delayed opening, the president will determine a specific time of opening and that information will be distributed through an emergency application, on the president’s twitter account @UT_President along with an email from the president and posted to the homepage of tennessee.edu.
The president also has the ability to allow for the System administration to have the ability to telecommute.
